Lines & Wrinkles
Facial lines and Wrinkles otherwise known as rhytides form as a natural part of the ageing processes.
Lines and wrinkles are commonly asymmetrical, as people tend to smile or frown more on one side than the other, or consistently sleep on one side rather than the other. The cause and nature of the lines and wrinkles will dictate what is the best option for treatment.
There are many factors which accelerate the formation of lines and wrinkles and these include
The ageing process
Gravity
Muscle movement (know as dynamic lines)
Injury
Surgery
Sun damage
Acne
Other skin diseases with a tendency to scar (e.g. discoid lupus)

Volume Loss
Volume loss is a normal part of the ageing process with many changes going on in your facial bones as well as muscles, fat pads and skin.
All in all as we age instead of having the natural triangle of youth, wider across our cheeks, this gets turned on its head and we became wider across the jawline.
This volume loss causes hallowing around the eye sockets along with sunken temples, cheeks start to flattened , loose skin becomes evident around the jawline, better known as jowls. Fine lines appear on the lips and around the nose. Nasolabial folds form around the corners of the nose and mouth and oral commissures develop just beneath the corner of the mouth. Horizontal lines appear above the chin and below the mouth , know as the mental crease. Lips also become thinner. Add on top of this skin that appears drier, thinner, less pliable and vibrant, that is losing its collagen and the result is the ageing face.

Pigmentation &
Uneven Skin Tone
Hyper-pigmentation is darkened areas of the skin. This is caused by the overproduction of a pigment in the skin known as melanin. It is common and usually harmless, but cosmetically is often a nuisance to those who suffer from it.
It can affect anyone although is more prevalent among certain ethnicities. It can affect any part of the body including the face, hands, and neck. People often refer to areas of hyper-pigmentation as freckles, sun spots, age spots or liver spots. Melasma otherwise known as the ‘pregnancy mask,’ is caused by hormonal changes due to pregnancy and is characterised by pigmented areas usually on the face (except the eye area).
Causes of hyper-pigmentation, include over exposure to the sun, hormonal changes, heredity factors, some medication, post inflammation eg after acne, burn, injury to the skin known as PIH.
There is no ‘cure’ for hyper-pigmentation. Care should always be taken to distinguish between normal and abnormal pigmentation especially if the cause is sun exposure. There are, however, options to treat this condition providing there are no abnormalities worries or concerns which we would refer you back to see your doctor. One of the most important things you can do to reduce you risk of excessive pigmentation is to wear a sunscreen and avoid sun exposure.
